Why K.I.A.L

Growing up with a learning disability put me at a serious disadvantage, feeling ashamed, and isolated by peer pressure. I began sinking into a place of despair. I heard a small voice saying Stephanie you are a smart lady. I didn’t think I would accomplish anything because of what was spoken over me. I was told I would never get to go to college or have a career.  Something changed my life; it was one meeting with a mentor and this began my life of inspiration for others. I began to be in the presence of others with similar stories that were multimillionaires. At that point I started to believe in myself. By God’s grace I went to college and completed my Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD and now ThD.  I am also the author of Rise Above It All (will the overcomers please rise) (available on Amazon).

Throughout my graduate studies and experience in the field of education, I discovered that our adolescents were not fully equipped to enter adulthood. I was your age at one point, so I can relate to how you feel. The only difference is things have become more challenging since I was your age.  I noticed many were not educated in financial management, making wise decisions and the styles of learning in adulthood that was not taught. I made a lot of mistakes when I was your age because of a lack of preparation (So don’t feel bad).

The styles of learning such as (collaborative, experiential, self-directed and transformative learning are necessary for you to understand. Collaborative learning allows you to learn among each other. Experiential learning is learning through experience. Transformative learning will focus on learning in a society of change. A self-directed learner is one that takes initiative to inquire and learn.
